Often, Wallpaper is thought to be out of date, so people will use paint to give their walls some color. This shouldnt be overlooked however; if you choose the right wallpaper it can make your walls look much better than any color paint. Heres some tips to help you out:
Vinyl is normally the default type of material for wallpaper. Vinyl is easy to hang, its easy to clean, and its easy to remove if you would like to change the look of your room. Other materials should be considered though, because vinyl is not the only good choice. You could use fabrics or textures for a more modern feel, but its difficult to hang. This works well in a room that doesn’t have a lot of moisture. Other (natural) materials like grass or bamboo could also look good, because of their uniqueness, however this could be very hard to hang. You may want to consider choosing a wallpaper design that can be painted over. This will work good with bumps, or grooves in the wall. You will probably want a carve or mold design so it stands out in relief in this case.
Even though you can find solid colored wallpaper, most of them have patterns. These patterns can be vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. Choosing the right pattern can enhance a room immensely. You should avoid horizontal and vertical patterns if your walls aren’t perfectly square. This will make the problem stand out even more. If you have uneven walls, then you should choose a solid color, or a diagonal pattern. If you have a low ceiling, look for a vertical pattern to draw the eyes up to it when someone walks into your room. You should avoid patterned wallpaper in spaces that it will need to be cut often. This will make it hard to match up the patterns. If your choosing a patterned wallpaper, you should think about the size of the patterns. In a large space, large and wide stripes may look good, but put it in a smaller space, and it will probably be overwhelming.
When your choosing a wallpaper, you also want to consider the use of the room. If its in a bathroom, you want one thats water resistant, if not it will peel. In a kitchen, you want a wallpaper that wont trap the smells produced in the kitchen. You also want to look at colors; don’t choose deep, heavy colors for a small room, instead use a dark color in a large room. Look at the surrounding furniture, like sofas, and bedding, and find a wallpaper that is complimentary, but not the same color. Last but not least, you want to consider price and ease of removal. Remember, there will most likely come a day that you don’t want that wallpaper on your walls anymore.
