Choose The Right Wallpaper

Often, Wallpaper is thought to be out of date, so people will use paint to give their walls some color. This shouldnt be overlooked however; if you choose the right wallpaper it can make your walls look much better than any color paint. Heres some tips to help you out:

Vinyl is normally the default type of material for wallpaper. Vinyl is easy to hang, its easy to clean, and its easy to remove if you would like to change the look of your room. Other materials should be considered though, because vinyl is not the only good choice. You could use fabrics or textures for a more modern feel, but its difficult to hang. This works well in a room that doesn’t have a lot of moisture. Other (natural) materials like grass or bamboo could also look good, because of their uniqueness, however this could be very hard to hang. You may want to consider choosing a wallpaper design that can be painted over. This will work good with bumps, or grooves in the wall. You will probably want a carve or mold design so it stands out in relief in this case.

Even though you can find solid colored wallpaper, most of them have patterns. These patterns can be vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. Choosing the right pattern can enhance a room immensely. You should avoid horizontal and vertical patterns if your walls aren’t perfectly square. This will make the problem stand out even more. If you have uneven walls, then you should choose a solid color, or a diagonal pattern. If you have a low ceiling, look for a vertical pattern to draw the eyes up to it when someone walks into your room. You should avoid patterned wallpaper in spaces that it will need to be cut often. This will make it hard to match up the patterns. If your choosing a patterned wallpaper, you should think about the size of the patterns. In a large space, large and wide stripes may look good, but put it in a smaller space, and it will probably be overwhelming.

When your choosing a wallpaper, you also want to consider the use of the room. If its in a bathroom, you want one thats water resistant, if not it will peel. In a kitchen, you want a wallpaper that wont trap the smells produced in the kitchen. You also want to look at colors; don’t choose deep, heavy colors for a small room, instead use a dark color in a large room. Look at the surrounding furniture, like sofas, and bedding, and find a wallpaper that is complimentary, but not the same color. Last but not least, you want to consider price and ease of removal. Remember, there will most likely come a day that you don’t want that wallpaper on your walls anymore.

How To Design Your Room With A Theme

It’s a fairly common thing to add a theme to your room, or a room of your house. For people who are new to it, it might be a hard process. Once you have your theme picked out, there’s a few things you should know.

You should have colors that complement the room. For example of you have a theme that’s mostly black, maybe a sports team and that’s their main color, then you might want white walls, and highlights of their secondary color, such as red for example. Now that you know what colors and theme you want, it’s time to choose the products and materials.

When your buying your materials and products, you probably want to consider buying mostly from the same source. Make sure to pick a source that has a good portion of what you want. The reason for this is so the colors match perfectly. One companies version of red can be slightly lighter or darker than another companies version. If your having a sports theme, buy from the set that’s advertised. Some sports themes colors could tend to vary too.

Now that you know where to buy your products from, you should set a budget. When setting your budget you should consider how many things your adding to the room; if you could sell any of your current items you don’t need (this could help cover cost); and the quality of the products you want. Will you settle for a lower quality product? Or do you want only the best? Do you care how long it lasts? You could also look at the materials that the products are made out of. Its known that some recycled products (and more Eco-friendly) could be more durable. For example, a structure made of bamboo is more Eco-friendly than a wood structure, and bamboo is known to be more durable. You may also want to set your budget for your themed room about 5-10% higher than you anticipate. If money is not an issue, just skip this step.

Now that you know how to add a theme to your room, it’s time to go out and make it happen! If you need any further help, or would like to browse through possible brands and products for your theme , please refer to the links at the beginning of the article.

How To Choose The Right Lighting

In your home, having the right lighting and lighting fixtures is a key component to the tranquility of your home. Find out how to choose the right lighting for your home, and how to choose energy efficient lights in this article.

The main problem with poor lighting is that it can cause eye problems. It has also been proven that long exposures to darkness can lead to depression. That being said, the human eyes naturally want sunlight. So you need to choose lights that are closest to sunlight.

The next thing you may want to consider is the purpose of the room your lighting. For example, a bathroom should have more powerful lighting, while a bedroom or hallway should have less powerful lighting since there’s no need to use that much power. When your choosing the type of light fixture, you should stay away from bold colors, unless it matches the room. Otherwise, it’s mainly about preference. The lighting should also fit with the style of the room. You don’t want to have a retro styled room, but have modern light fixtures. This will stand out to everyone who sees the room, and they will notice that something’s wrong with the room.

Now that you know what type of lighting fixtures to choose for your home, you should consider the actual lights that will be put in them. There are 3 main types of lights, which are: compact flourescent light bulbs, halogen light bulbs, and LED light bulbs.

Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s) – these are one of the most energy efficient light bulb. They can light just as good as traditional lighting , but last almost twice as long. Using CFLs instead of incandescent lightbulbs can save a homeowner up to 25% of their electric bill each year.

Halogen light bulbs – Halogen bulbs use halogen gas in order to increase both light output and rated life. These, like the CFL , have a pretty high life span. These however are used more for flood lights , or spot lights.

LED light bulb – these are the most energy efficient choice of lighting. These lights are made for the home, and out last any of the above lights. The highest quality LED lamps last up to 50,000 hours and generate almost 90% less heat than a typical incandescent bulb. They are not slow to start like Compact Fluorescent bulbs and most contain no mercury or lead. This is my preferred choice of lighting.

Now that you know how to choose the right lighting for your home , and how to choose energy efficient lights , it’s time you put your plan to action. Save some money, and have a great looking room to go with it!

Choosing The Right Flooring

Are you confused about which flooring to choose for your home? In this article, you will learn what is the best flooring for your home, and what type of flooring (ex: hardwood flooring , carpet , hardwood flooring types , tile). You will also learn how to choose the right flooring for your home.

There are many types of flooring , and theres one for almost any fit. Before you think about style of flooring, you should think about what room you are covering. For example, you don’t want to carpet your kitchen because of spilt liquids, and various stains. You also should think about maintenance effort and time. If you put a carpet where a lot of dirt gets tracked, you have to realize that you will spend more time cleaning it than you would a hardwood floor. You also want to think about who lives in your home, as far as children or pets. Lastly, cost is also a factor. Be aware that there are substitutes for materials, such as laminate and wood.

CHOICES:

Now that you have a general idea of what you want, you should start to round down your choices. There is a really wide range of choices for flooring. Some materials are vinyl , laminate , hardwood flooring , bamboo , linoleum , cork , carpet , tile , concrete , and stone.

Pros and cons of materials:

Vinyl – easy to clean, wide variety of colors, cost effective, easy to maintain, not a renewable source, not heat tolerant, dents.

Laminate – durable, can be put over existing floors, can be removed easily, style options are in both wood and stone patterns, easy to install, edges can be a path for water spills.

Wood – long lasting if maintained properly, can be refinished, many wood types and stains, can develop squeaks, wood can curve with humidity changes, can be hard to install.

Bamboo – environmentally friendly, resistant to moisture, wont curve like wood, quality can vary.

Linoleum – made from natural materials, easy to install, wont attract dust, durable, many colors and styles, may not be good for bathrooms, normally need paid installation.

Cork – cushion comfort, many styles, insulating, resistant to mold and moisture, can fade due to light, will indent with heavy loads.

Carpet – many styles, textures and colors, easy to replace, sound insulator, affected by stains and spills, needs to be maintained frequently

Tile – many styles and colors, low maintenance, stain resistant, wont burn, fade or melt, cost effective, can trap dirt, hard surface, can be a slipping hazard when wet.

Now that you know all about how to choose your flooring , and what styles and materials there are, its time to go to the store and try the floorings out to see if you really like them. Remember, try before you buy. Also remember that not one choice of flooring is 100 percent perfect; every type of flooring has its drawbacks. I hope this helps!!
